{"id":5803,"date":"2025-01-09T12:18:32","date_gmt":"2025-01-09T11:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teamgymtraeneren.dk\/your-personal-style\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T15:40:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T13:40:28","slug":"your-personal-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teamgymtraeneren.dk\/en\/your-personal-style\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Personal Style"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Everyone has a personal style \u2013 have you found yours?<\/p>\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t found your personal style yet when choreographing routines, don\u2019t worry \u2013 you\u2019ll find it. <\/p>\n\n<p>I found my own style relatively late in my coaching career. What I found difficult was striking the balance between the creative part of me and the part that had to fulfill the requirements of the regulations. For many years, I struggled to fully understand the rules and, therefore, to achieve the results I was aiming for. I kept setting new goals for myself and the team I was coaching. I really wanted to keep evolving as a floor coach and choreographer, and it took about 14 years before everything started to fall into place. When it finally did, I knew exactly what I was aiming for in terms of movement, formations, and the overall structure of my routines.     <\/p>\n\n<p>I\u2019m grateful for my persistence and for never giving up! So my message to you is:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>KEEP WANTING TO DEVELOP YOURSELF!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>In 1999, I started as both a tumbling and floor coach in \u00d8lstykke Gymnastik Forening. Over the following 14 years, I coached micro girls, mini girls, junior girls, and youth girls on floor. In 2014, I became the floor coach for the senior women in Gladsaxe. Starting in 2017, I also began coaching boys\u2019 teams \u2013 micro boys, mini boys, junior boys, and later senior men.  <\/p>\n\n<p>I had my &#8220;breakthrough&#8221; in 2015 when I choreographed my second senior women&#8217;s routine. It dawned on me that I knew exactly what I wanted: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The routine should flow from start to finish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every movement should have purpose<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be no filler exercises<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formation changes should be natural and logical<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The first half of the routine should be beautiful and graceful, while the second half should be creative and bold in a cool way<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be new, never-before-seen movements, and the latter part of the routine should express power<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elements should be placed logically in the music and on musical cues \u2013 so that just by listening to the music, you\u2019d know when each element would appear, even without watching the routine <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>This became the foundation for my personal way of choreographing a routine. I don\u2019t focus too much on how others choreograph their routines, but I\u2019m very aware of how I want mine to look. I still use the same basic framework when creating a routine:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The routine must have cohesion from beginning to end, with a natural flow between movements, elements, and formations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Every movement must have meaning. When I move to the music, I let my body guide the movement. If my body doesn\u2019t enjoy doing it, then it\u2019s the wrong exercise. This is a bit more challenging with a routine for young gymnasts, because movements have to be simple, but they should still feel good for the gymnasts   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There should be no filler exercises in the routine. I\u2019m absolutely allergic to movements where gymnasts constantly gather on one foot and stand still. In my view, that\u2019s filler \u2013 and I won\u2019t include it. Preparation for an element, however, is not filler \u2013 it\u2019s necessary for the element to succeed   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formation changes should be natural and logical. All gymnasts should have the same distance to move, and there should be a reason why I\u2019m using a particular formation. In my senior men\u2019s routine from 2023\u201324, the gymnasts form a triangle at one point. This formation came from an idea I had about three gymnasts doing solos in the middle of the routine \u2013 they were the triangle\u2019s points   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movements are determined by the music and the theme of the routine. So if the music is sad, the movements should reflect that<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elements should be placed logically in the music and on clear accents, so that when you hear the music, you know exactly when an element is coming, even if you&#8217;re not watching the routine <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>I can\u2019t choreograph routines in the same way that some other truly skilled floor coaches can, and there are so many great choreographers in Europe! I have my own style \u2013 and that\u2019s my point. You need to find your own unique way of creating routines. We can always draw inspiration from others, but what matters most is that you find what truly makes sense for you.
